AI and Technology Part One by AD

Many people in the world know about AI and Technology. Phones, TV’s, Alexa’s. All types of technology and AI. But as technology seems to advance, this is going to change the future of the next generation in about two ways. It might start to destroy the world or take it to greater heights. In this essay, I will explain the consequences of AI and Technology.

One day I was at my friend's house for a sleepover. We were looking for new movies on Netflix and we saw NexGen. NextGen was a movie about an angry teenager named Mai. Mai finds a robot named 7723 and together they bully bullies, and destroy other robots. Everything was good until they hurt one of Mai's enemies. Meanwhile, Mai took the robot from a company called IQ Robotics and that company was tracking them down. The owner of the company, Dr. Tanner Rice, finds Mai’s house and starts causing destruction. Soon at a robot soccer tournament Mai soon figures out that Dr. Tanner Rice is not a human at all, but in fact a robot. The robot wanted to eliminate all humans for pushing them around.

This is a fun adventurous movie which I highly recommend to older children, but this story does have a happy ending. Real life might not be that way. AI is already in so many people's lives, and it can take just a few hackers to destroy AI and people. And it can take AI to help hackers. AI has a great impact already on people's lives. Why? Because AI has taken jobs. Jobs that some people need money for. Some people might say that it is good that AI can do jobs for us, but is it? AI is programmed to be smarter than humans, so AI can over take almost any job, leaving people lazy. If you have ever watched WALL-E you might get my point. Now although in WALL-E people get lazy on their own terms, people can get lazy because of AI. And even though NextGen is science fiction, there is a reason for it. It can be possible for AI robots to take over the world. Now, even though it is unlikely, it is not impossible.

I am pretty sure that everyone reading this right now has an electrical device. Right? Well let me tell you something. I have older friends. I used to be great friends with them until one of them got a phone. After that we don’t really see each other anymore. I really want to have fun hanging out with them but it is kind of hard when they are on their phones. It made me really sad, but I realize that it’s not just them, it’s everyone. So many people are addicted to the phone life, it sometimes causes you to forget about the friends who don’t have phones. So it’s not really their fault. By getting a phone, you finally feel connected to your friends but sometimes disconnected from the world . But is it worth the risk? Phones and other technologic devices are bad for your mental health. It can also make you less social and interactive with people when you see them in person. Having a phone that you are addicted to can take you away from some great opportunities in life. Like going to see the world. Going on vacation. Some may feel that going places is un-needed because there are devices that make you feel like you're there when you're not. People are going to be disconnected from the world, nature, what it feels like to be actually there. To be physically social. So many traits that humans are capable of might disappear. And why? Because humans depend and advance on technology too much. But even though this article is about all of the bad things about AI and technology, in some cases, it might not be too bad.

AI and Technology Part Two by AD

Many people in the world know about AI and Technology. Phones, TV’s, Alexa’s. All types of technology and AI. But as technology seems to advance, this is going to change the future of the next generation in about two ways. It might start to destroy the world or take it to greater heights. In this essay, I will explain the positive future of AI and Technology.

AI which stands for Artificial Intelligence, can be a great thing. For one, electric cars are used by AI, which help the environment by using electricity instead of gas to fuel cars. This is reducing the risk of global warming getting worse. In fact, climate pollution would get significantly better now that cars are not burning fossil fuels.

Another reason is that AI can be really helpful. AI can help with tough work and can do many jobs making things smoother and easier for people. AI cars and vehicles make transportation lots easier. A self-driving car would be safer and more helpful for drivers.

Technology can be really helpful too. Technology is what almost everyone in the world uses. In fact, over 74% of the world uses technology in some way. Technology is a great place to learn and create things. On technology you can be creative and be yourself. You can search almost anything up on google or safari, and it’s a great way to do research on a new or old topic.

Phones are a big part of technology and are helpful as well. Phones help you feel connected to the internet and your friends. By using phones or other electrical devices, you can speak up and share what’s on your mind. It’s also a good way to find friends and people who have the same concerns and interests as you. And some people can even get money from posting on Tick Tock, Instagram, and other social media apps. So AI and Technology can be immensely helpful in many ways. But be careful, we might take them too far.

The Worries About Construction in Minneapolis by AY

Recently, Tim Sexton began construction work around Minneapolis’ road areas in an effort to make new infrastructure, but people are not so sure about this decision, considering the fact that it will be a massive headache for anyone that has a daily commute along these routes that are getting affected.

Many people are talking about the George Floyd square getting reconstructed, but some say that this will hurt businesses because of the closing of sections and streets. Others are saying that the amount of money that will be spent on the project is too much and that it isn't beneficial.

Tim Sexton (the leader of the City of Minneapolis Public Works) believes that these changes are vital to Minneapolis' infrastructure, but he acknowledges the temporary inconvenience that has been caused. He is thinking about the long term benefits that come with these changes. He has sunk a whopping 323 million dollars into this project and it is estimated to end in November 2026. He oversees 1,100 people who build and maintain the city’s public infrastructure.

In order to "...further our City's vision for a safe, equitable, and sustainable infrastructure system…" Tim Sexton said, right before his unanimous confirmation vote to become the new Public Works Director for Minneapolis on April 25, 2024. He is also working towards tackling climate change at a local level through transportation which is Tim’s expertise. Construction on I-394 has also begun and is expected to cause delays throughout the summer and all the way until November which will slow down traffic significantly and make daily commutes much more strenuous.

Cities other than Minneapolis are also undergoing major construction projects, like Chicago, where there is going to be 8 billion dollars spent on creating 10,000 new housing units and a new stadium in the South Loop. New York City is also doing something similar, constructing the most multi-family housing units nationwide, along with them developing Manhattan's west side more. The biggest construction project that is occurring right now in the U.S. is the California High-Speed Rail, a high speed railway that is envisioned to stretch from Sacramento all the way to San Diego and is supposed to cost upwards of 126 billion dollars, but could rise to 231 billion dollars because of fluctuating prices, almost doubling the original price. The construction of the railway started on January 6, 2015, and is predicted to end in 2038, 2 decades after the construction started.

An amount of 15.1 million dollars has been spent on the reconstruction of the George Floyd Square on 38th street and Chicago Avenue intersection and has been facing intense debate. Local black business owner Al Flowers has been protesting the construction crew closing the whole street because it could potentially harm the businesses. Pedestrian spaces will be upgraded around the square, and so will the vehicle and bus access. Throughout Minneapolis 1,827 lead water service lines are getting replaced, almost 20 miles of street is getting resurfaced, 3 Greenway bridges will be restored, and 34 more construction projects will go underway. “We are making the city greener, cleaner, and more resilient…” Tim Sexton said, which is making some people excited about what could come for Minneapolis in the near future.

The construction around Minneapolis is showing some benefits and downsides. These renovations around the city are blocking traffic and disturbing people's daily commute. The question to ask now is, is it worth it? What if these renovations introduce new revolutionary safety measures, pipes, and better roads, or what if this is all just a big waste of money and time, and the changes won’t be beneficial?

It is hard to see this early into the construction process, and it isn’t worth speculating about yet, but the answer will become obvious in the near future.

Empty Playground by Anonymous

empty playground,
empty swings,
empty lot,
empty things.

summer's out!
so school is gone.
Yet nobody
is on the lawn.

boys and girls,
once out to play,
won't be back-
another day.

old and cool,
they stay inside.
worrying, worrying,
with all their might.

long walks,
and talks,
have turned
to text.

anxious about
what's coming
next.

grade 6-
grade 7-
then eight,
now nine,

finally!
it's time,
it's time!

Fire Hydrant

Water ready for an emergency
When crisis hits water sprays out mighty
When a ragging fire hits
And duty calls to the fire hydrant
The fire hydrant will get the job done
Fire mighty and strong
But still no match
For the fire hydrant

Engineers

Engineers, putting structures together to create better tools
Engineers, making electronic devices up of programs
Engineers, making up programs with reactions coded deep inside
Engineers, our tool makers

Electricity

Electricity, powers our surroundings
Our lights, our chargers, our clocks
Electricity, powers our survival tools
Our water filtration machines, our ovens
Electricity the ruler of our lives

Playground

Kids freed from classes
Free to use their imaginations
New friends made
As well as enemies
Kids tall
Kids short
Come together and play fun games
Fun games
Where their
Pirates in their mighty ships sailing the 7 seas
Where their
Dragons stealing princesses and blowing mighty fire
Where their
Knights in bright shining armor off to save a princess
Kids playing
Kids imagining
On the playground

A Willow

A seed
Day, night
Rainfall, sunlight
The seed now sprouting
Not a seed anymore but a sapling
Moved to better nutrients
Roots begin to grow underground
The sapling begins to grow
20 years pass
Roots covering underground soil
Sapling not so small anymore
The sapling can no longer be called a sapling
But can be called a mighty Willow
Willow gained lots of new life and noises
The Willow by a rushing river
The Willow with a bunnies burrow deep within its roots
The Willow with a wood structure up within its branches, a tree house
Along and squeezed between the Willows branches song birds are singing
And the chicks in their nests chomping on the juiciest worms
The Willow Loved

A Flag Came Back by H.S.

Dad left. A flag came back.
“Just married” read the shattered windshield.
The smallest coffins are the heaviest.
“It’s our fiftieth, table for one.”
“I jumped. Then changed my mind.”
“Ever seen chalk outlines that small?”
Mom taught him how to shave.

Interview with A.V. by H.S.

If she was stranded on a deserted island and were rescued the very first thing she would do is ask for food and water.

She feels strongly about the rising gas prices, she thinks it's idiotic that gas costs so much because our world leaders cannot seem to come to an agreement, and the Iran War because she felt that bombing them was unnecessary with a hidden malicious intent.

If A.V. had the ability to learn any skill in just one night she would learn acrobatics due to the fact that she is a dancer, and it could really add to her resume and dance abilitiess.

One of her aspirations this summer is to improve her skills in tap dancing which could also make her a stronger, more well-rounded dancer.

If she had to invent a job for adults today, she would give them the job of luxury child transportation, so she could ride to school in luxury cars with her friends.

A.V. believes that if animals could talk, in a stereotypical high school setting, a peacock would be portrayed as a mean girl, a cat would be a nerd, and a hummingbird would likely be a popular girl.

Her biggest pet peeve is when her sister consistently sings “It’s a Small World” from the classic Small World water ride at Disney World.

For A.V. the biggest “red flag” in a friendship is slandering each other covertly.

And finally A.V. looks up to her close friends Leona and Jocelyn for their wittiness, determination, and passion.

My interesting story about shih tzus by AV

Do you have dogs? I have two dogs named Rocco and Petra. Rocco is a twelve year old black and white shih tzu. He cannot see and spends most of his time on the couch sleeping and chilling. Petra is a six year old black and brown German shepherd. She is full of energy and spunk and is a great guard dog.I happen to have an interesting story about me shih tzu. My dogs are very different from each other and I still love both of them equally for many different reasons, but I will mostly be talking about the weird story I have about Rocco.

First a little bit more about Rocco. Rocco is always sleepy and would love nothing more than to find a spot on the couch and sleep all day long. Rocco is old and his joints have seen better days. The main thing I must tell you about is that Rocco can barely see anything because his eyes stopped producing tears, so they got all boggery and as a result, he can’t really see anything. Otherwise, Rocco is very healthy and is kind of lazy. (Don’t tell him I said that, or I will find out.) And finally, I will tell you about the weird fact in the next paragraph, so stick around.

Okay, the weird fact is that both my mom’s mom and my dad’s parents have a shih tzu from the same breeder that my family got Rocco from. Interesting, right?! My mom’s mom’s dog’s name is Prince and my dad’s parent’s dogs are named Gemma and Lola. Prince is light brown and white, Gemma is light brown and gets quite tan in the summer, and Lola is dark grey and white. Prince is six years old and loves to cuddle and run around. Gemma is five years old and is very cute and tiny. Lola is twelve years old and usually is not very affectionate and does not like people in her face but lately, she has been the complete opposite. Well that is the story and a little bit about my grandparent’s dogs.

My dad’s parents bought one shih tzu from the breeder that Rocco is from and loved him so much that they kept buying shih tzus from that same breeder. They love shih tzus because they don’t shed, they are very affectionate, they are good with kids, and are easy to take care of. They decided to buy a shih tzu because they wanted a dog that did not shed and liked their personality. Their favorite attribute of the dog is that they are so loving. If they had the choice to buy a different dog breed, they would choose not to because they are so familiar with the shih tzus.

My mom’s mom likes shih tzus because they are great companions and are completely loveable. Her favorite attribute of shih tzus is their size. She told me it is easy to put them in a stroller and take them shopping. She ended up buying a shih tzu because she had seen my dad’s parent’s shih tzus and wanted one of her own because she needed a companion and simply loved dogs. She would not consider buying a different breed of dog because she is content with shih tzus and their lifespan. She decided to buy a shih tzu from the same breeder breeder that my family got Rocco from because she liked the dog’s behavior, appearance, and intelligence.

Well that concludes the story of my grandparent’s shih tzus and Rocco. I truly hope you enjoyed this interesting, but completely true story about my family’s shih tzus. I love all dogs and I truly enjoyed writing this story to entertain you and tell you something totally weird. Thank you again, and have a great rest of your day.

The lonely fire hydrant by K.K.

The little red fire hydrant,

Standing tall and lonely.

When it rains or snows,

And when it’s in the sun.

It doesn’t complain,

Yet it still is there to save the day!

When there is a fire

And when people shout,

It is still there to put the fire out!!!

Candy houses found in forest!!! Could the story of Hansel and Gretel be true?! by KK

A couple had discovered a village full of gingerbread cottages. They were on a nature hike when they smelled a sweet scent, curious where the sweet scent came from, they decided to follow the scent as they were interested in what they could find. They kept looking until they knew they had found something. But what they had found was unbelievable, a village made of real life gingerbread houses! The couple were very amazed. Soon there were news reporters who were filing in to have a good look, ”How is this possible!” one reporter exclaimed. Then the village was investigated with private investigators, the houses looked mostly new, but there was one house that actually looked quite old, it had a large pot,t hat actually looked like a cauldron, but the worst part was that it had moldy bones in the pot, it also had a small cage in the back of the room the rest of the house was just old decayed furniture. Could it be possible that it had something to do with the story of Hansel and Gretel? We might never know, but for now all we can do is guess.
